We're located at 116 Bungarribee Rd, Blacktown and look after drivers across Blacktown, Prospect, Seven Hills, Bungarribee, Toongabbie, Lalor Park, and Doonside and the wider Western Sydney region.

What we inspect and repair

Your steering system has several components that wear over time. Here's what we check and service:

Power steering pump. The pump pressurises hydraulic fluid to assist your steering. When it fails, the steering wheel becomes heavy and hard to turn, especially at low speeds. We test pump pressure output and replace the unit if needed.

Rack and pinion. The steering rack converts your steering wheel rotation into the side-to-side movement that turns your front wheels. Worn racks cause loose, vague steering and can leak fluid. We inspect for play, leaks and damage.

Tie rod ends. Tie rods connect the steering rack to your wheel hubs. Worn tie rod ends cause uneven tyre wear, wandering on the road and clunking noises when turning. We check for excessive play and replace them in pairs where recommended.

Drive belts. The serpentine or drive belt powers the power steering pump (along with the alternator and air conditioning). A worn or cracked belt can slip or snap, causing sudden loss of power steering. We inspect belt condition and tension.

Hoses and seals. Power steering hoses carry pressurised fluid between the pump and rack. Cracked hoses and worn seals cause fluid leaks, which lead to reduced steering assist and potential pump damage. We replace hoses and seals to stop leaks and restore full function.

Steering column and universal joints. The column connects the steering wheel to the rack. Worn universal joints create clunking or binding when turning. We inspect and replace column components as needed.

Warning signs your steering needs attention

Don't ignore these symptoms. Steering problems get worse over time and can become a safety risk:

  • Whining or squealing when turning. Usually a failing power steering pump or low fluid level.
  • Heavy steering, especially at low speed. Could be a pump failure, low fluid, a broken belt or a problem with the rack.
  • Fluid leaking under the front of your car. Power steering fluid is typically reddish-brown. A puddle means a hose, seal or rack is leaking.
  • Steering wheel vibrates at speed. Can indicate worn tie rods, a damaged rack or an alignment issue.
  • Steering pulls to one side. May be a tie rod problem, alignment issue or uneven tyre wear caused by a steering fault.
  • Clunking or knocking when turning. Often worn tie rod ends or steering column universal joints.
  • Steering feels loose or vague. Worn rack, tie rods or other components allowing too much play.

If you notice any of these signs, book in sooner rather than later. A small steering repair now can prevent a major failure on the road.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are signs of steering problems?

The most common signs are whining or squealing noises when you turn the wheel, heavy steering (especially at low speed), fluid leaks under the front of the car, vibration through the steering wheel and the car pulling to one side. If you notice any of these, book a steering inspection.

How much do steering repairs cost?

It depends on the component that needs repair or replacement. A drive belt replacement is at the lower end, while a rack and pinion replacement is a larger job. We'll diagnose the problem first and give you a clear quote before any work begins. We never charge for work you haven't approved.

Is it safe to drive with steering issues?

It depends on the problem, but we recommend getting it checked as soon as possible. A sudden power steering failure at speed or a broken tie rod can cause you to lose control of the vehicle. Don't take the risk.

What causes power steering failure?

The most common causes are low fluid (from a leak), a worn power steering pump, a cracked or snapped drive belt, or a failing rack and pinion. Regular servicing and fluid checks help prevent sudden failures.

How often should steering be serviced?

There's no fixed interval like an oil change, but you should have your steering system inspected during every major service. If you drive on rough roads regularly or notice any warning signs, book an inspection sooner. Catching wear early is always cheaper than replacing a failed component.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I service my car?

Most modern cars need a service every 10,000–15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Your logbook sets the exact interval and we service to it, keeping your manufacturer warranty intact.

Do you service all vehicle makes and models?

Yes, all makes and models including European vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen). Passenger cars, SUVs, 4WDs, utes and vans.

Can I book my service online?

Yes, two ways. Use our Book Online page for servicing, pink slips, wheel alignments, rotations and tyre health checks, or chat with our virtual assistant right here on the site and it will help arrange your booking. For tyres and mechanical repairs, the assistant can point you in the right direction, or call (02) 9622 5511.

Not sure what your car actually needs?

That's what we're here for. Chat with our virtual assistant on this page: describe the symptom, the warning light, or what another workshop told you, and it will help you work out what's worth looking at, with honest answers from our own service information. Prefer a person? Call (02) 9622 5511, or drop in for a free assessment and we'll look at the car before anything is quoted.

Do you offer same-day tyre fitting?

Often, yes. Fitting takes 30–60 minutes and popular sizes are in stock or ordered in quickly. Call (02) 9622 5511 with your tyre size to lock in same-day fitting.

Which tyre brands do you stock?

Goodyear, Dunlop, Continental, Pirelli, Kumho, Maxxis and Hifly, plus quality budget brands. Search by brand, size or vehicle.

Do you do mechanical repairs, or just tyres?

We're a full mechanical workshop, not just a tyre shop. Engine repairs, suspension and steering, cooling systems, clutches, exhausts, computer diagnostics and general servicing, for all makes and models.

Can you service a new car without voiding its warranty?

Yes. Our logbook servicing follows the manufacturer's schedule and uses compliant parts and fluids, so your new-car warranty stays intact. We stamp the logbook and provide a detailed report.
